Before implementing Odoo: define a clear scope

Choosing apps is part of an Odoo project, but it does not define implementation success. First agree which processes will change, which data will move and who will accept each result.
1. Choose a connected business flow
Instead of activating every app, define one complete journey: capture a lead, prepare a quotation, approve the sale, issue an invoice and review its accounting treatment.
Your discussion may begin with CRM, Sales, Invoicing and Accounting. The final selection should follow your business processes, not the number of icons in a demonstration.
2. Prepare data before moving it
Review customers, products, balances and duplicates. Identify the authoritative source, the correction owner and the migration period for each dataset.
Agree how migrated data will be reconciled. Financial results should be reviewed and approved by your finance owner. Installing accounting software does not replace a review of your company's configuration and requirements.
3. Define permissions and approvals
Specify who creates, edits, approves and views each record. Test representative roles, not just an administrator account.
For an approval step, define rejection, changes after approval and the absence of the usual approver. These are scope requirements, not late-stage details.
4. Separate requirements from assumptions
Document hosting, data location, invoicing, language and integrations. Have the appropriate specialist review your requirements. Verify an integration's availability and suitability before including it in a delivery commitment.
Prefer standard configuration when suitable. For customisation, document the business reason, maintenance implications and who tests it during upgrades.
5. Agree launch readiness and handover
Define acceptance scenarios, training, support responsibilities and the response to transition problems. A successful demo is not launch approval.
